Net-a-Porter Runway to Green event

Net-A-Porter.com, the world’s premier online luxury retailer, is proud to be the launch partner for Runway to Green’s initiative to mobilize the fashion community to raise funding and awareness for Alliance for Climate Protection, the Natural Resources Defense Council and the United Nations Environment Programme’s Billion Tree Campaign.

In order to qualify for inclusion in the Runway to Green program, over 25 participating designers made a commitment to investigate how they can integrate the sustainable manufacturing practices put forward in the Clean by Design initiative from the NRDC. In addition, the selected leading designer brands dedicated items from or created items for their Fall 2011 collections to benefit the Runway to Green cause.

Each designer will create an exclusive fashion item for the Runway to Green Collection that will be sold in selected retail stores around the globe. I am really glad that this is all happening. I have seen small local labels around me take responsibility in their manufacturing process, but not the big fashion houses, so this is REAL! Only the big brands can make a difference and for them taking responsibility for what their doing to the world is a BIG STEP! I am going to follow this and keep you updated about this IMPORTANT! Topic. As a designer we can raise awareness, and it is about time that we are taking responsability. I am more than happy, I am thrilled!
